Paws to READ

Paws to READ
5+ years old
Wednesday, May 14th
4:30PM-5:30PM, by appointment only
Registration Required
Smyrna Library, Youth Services

Whether you want to encourage your child's love of reading, help build their confidence, or just want them to practice their reading skills, Paws to READ allows them  the opportunity all while cuddling Sadie, our Labradoodle therapy dog. Accompanied by Mrs. Teresa, retired school media specialist, children read to Sadie for 15 minutes in a relaxed, supportive, and non-judgmental environment. Reading opportunities are by appointment only and can be scheduled at the Youth Services desk or by calling Youth Services at 770-431-2860.

Registered children will not be read to but rather will read to Sadie and should be reading independently at an emergent level (sight words/Kindergarten) and up.

The Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) program improves children's reading and communication skills by employing a powerful method: reading to an animal. But not just any animal. R.E.A.D. companions are registered therapy animals who volunteer with their owner/handlers as a team, going to schools, libraries and many other settings as reading companions for children.
