Emergency Communications Officer I (Uncertified*) start at $43,518

*Upon completion of certification, pay will increase to COII (Certified) $48,099

Emergency Communications Officer II (Certified) starting range $48,099 - $61,326 DOQ

Staring pay for COII (Certified) depends on experience and qualifications at the time of hire.

Job Summary

Under supervision of a Communications Supervisor serves as a Communications Operator for the City's communications system as well as the E-911 system.  Answers all police, fire, emergency medical service and other assigned calls from the public and dispatches personnel and vehicles to the scene of an emergency based upon the nature and location of the call.  Performs other related duties as assigned.

  Essential Job Duties

  • Operates radios, telephones, alarm board, computer terminals, and printer in performing assigned duties.
  • Monitors switchboard; takes pertinent information regarding emergency and non-emergency calls.
  • As appropriate, dispatches fire, police, emergency medical services, park ranger, and/or animal control personnel in response to calls.
  • Performs data inquiries/entries into NCIC/GCIC computer.
  • Maintains detailed records of all calls received and all emergency units dispatched.
  • Maintains all necessary records and reports regarding communications activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 Minimum Requirements of Position

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) – with technical training in public safety communications, emergency medical dispatch, or radio communications and 5 months previous experience and/or training involving public safety dispatching or radio communications preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • US Citizen
  • Valid Georgia driver’s license. Some training may be out of town.
  • Must complete within twelve months of employment the following certifications: Emergency Medical Dispatch certification, Georgia P.O.S.T. Basic dispatcher certification, CPR/First Aid certification, and G.C.I.C. Terminal Operator certification.
  • PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO EXPERIENCED E-911 OPERATORS WITH PROVEN JOB-RELATED SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND CERTIFICATION.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts as assigned.
  • Ability to successfully complete post offer drug screen, criminal background check and physical.
