Parks Maintenance Technician I Part-Time

JOB SUMMARY

This is a part-time weekend position for Saturday’s  and Sunday’s.  Under the general direction of the Parks Superintendent, prepares and maintains the various city park facilities equipment and grounds for public usage. Prepares and maintains bathroom, pavilion, and common area cleanliness. 

PLEASE NOTE HOURS:  Position generally works up to 16 hours per week.

Must be able to work 8 hours Saturday and 8 hours Sunday.

MAJOR JOB DUTIES

  • Assists in cleaning the various outdoor park pavilions and restrooms by performing basic custodial duties.
  • Performs a variety of manual tasks such as backpack blowing pavilion areas, emptying trash receptacle’s and politely responding to specific requests of park patrons.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS 

The Parks Maintenance Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions and spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the results. 

GUIDELINES 

Guidelines include city policies and procedures and Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require interpretation in application. 

CONTACTS                                                                     

  • Contacts are typically with co-workers and the general public.
  • Contacts are typically to provide services or exchange information.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT 

  • The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
  • The work is typically performed outside and in noisy places exposed to dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY 

None.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • High School diploma or GED, plus five months previous experience and/or training, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for the job.
  • Ability to deal tactfully, cooperatively, and courteously and to establish a rapport with visitors and users of all ages, other City personnel, and the general public.
  • Ability to work variable hours as assigned, including early mornings, weekends, holidays, etc.
  • Ability to pass a post-offer criminal background investigation and post-offer drug screen and physical.
