Please Note:

Classes typically meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Applicants must be available to work on Tuesdays from 1:00–2:00 p.m. and Thursdays from 2:00–3:00 p.m.

JOB SUMMARY

The purpose of this classification is to plan, develop, and lead safe, effective, and enjoyable Tai Chi fitness classes at the Wolfe Adult Recreation Center. This position is under the general guidance of the Recreation Services Manager.

MAJOR DUTIES

Plans, develops and instructs Tai Chi fitness classes at the Wolfe Adult Recreation.
Ensures safety of participants during classes.
Motivates participants through personal high energy and enthusiasm.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

Knowledge and understanding, exercise principles and choreography and cueing Tai Chi.
Ability to motivate others.
Ability to perform duties with little to no supervision.
Ability to adapt quickly and positively to change and/or requested modifications.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stoop, balance, kneel, sit, stand, swim, jog, talk, and hear.The employee is required to use hands to handle, feel, or operate exercise equipment, and reach with hands and arms.
The employee must be able to perform exercise for prolonged periods of time.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

In the event of an emergency / accident involving a participant, the fitness instructor will assist staff with preparing accident report.
The employee may be required to work in a warm to hot aquatic environment. The employee may be conducting class in a chlorinated
heated pool with water temps between 88 and 92 degrees.
The noise level in the work environment is moderate to very noisy when conducting fitness classes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess and maintain fitness certification in Tai Chi.
Minimum one (1) year experience as a fitness instructor.
Must successfully pass criminal background check.
