On July 4, 2026, our nation will turn two hundred and fifty years old. The existence of American political campaign memorabilia reaches just as far.
In commemoration of America's 250, Smyrna Library and Smyrna Museum mounted an exhibit of whimsical, amusing, and historical artifacts from American political campaigns. Artifacts displayed are on loan from the personal collection of Smyrna City Councilman Travis Lindley. View the exhibit in the upper level display cases at Smyrna Public Library through the end of June, 2026.
Collecting since his youth Councilman Travis Lindley stated, “Since a young age, I have been interested in politics and all things Americana, especially ramping up during the election of 1992. I started the collection when I was roughly fifteen years old and it has grown steadily over time to its nearly 4,000 pieces today. I’ve been interested in politics just as long and active in the process for all my adult life. As the nation celebrates its 250th anniversary, it has been rewarding to look back over political history.”
Curated by Smyrna Museum Manager Jennie Eldredge, this entertaining collection offers an engaging glimpse into the past during a time when Americans are looking back on what has shaped our nation’s history.
