Arborist

The Arborist Division is responsible for overseeing the plan review and permitting processes regarding the City's tree/vegetation ordinance (Chapter 106). Applicants can apply for Tree Removal Permits and Tree Assessment Reports via the City's online application portal.


Building Department

The Building Division is responsible for plan reviews, permitting, and inspections for new residential, office, commercial, and industrial developments, as well as any remodeling or renovation projects within the City. This division is responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable building codes. Applicants can apply for permits via the City's online application portal.


Business License

The Business License Division is responsible for the processing and issuance of occupational tax certificates and alcohol licenses required to do business in the City of Smyrna. In addition, this division processes and issues licenses for short-term rentals, mobile food vendors, pawn brokers, precious metal dealers, etc. Applicants can apply for licenses via the City's online application portal.


Code Enforcement The Code Enforcement Division is responsible for the enforcement of property maintenance codes within the City of Smyrna. This division answers complaints, inspects properties, and issues notices of violations as part of resolving property maintenance issues. Common property maintenance issues include, but are not limited to the following: high grass, accumulation of debris, inoperable vehicles, operating a business without an occupational tax certificate, unpermitted signage, etc. Citizens can report violations using the City’s online Smyrna 311 service.


Planning & ZoningThe Planning & Zoning Division is responsible for performing short-term (zoning) and long-range (comprehensive) planning for the City. In addition, this division handles property addressing, platting, FOIA requests, and sign permitting. You may contact our planners with questions about zoning requirements, permitted uses, zoning and variance requests, or acquiring copies of City maps. Applicants can apply for rezoning, zoning amendments, variances, and subdivision plats via the City's online application portal.
