RECREATE Smyrna Master Plan
Master Plan Purpose:
Recreate can be defined as "giving new life or freshness", or "to take recreation", which is a "means of refreshment or diversion." RECREATE Smyrna takes both of these definitions and uses them to inspire the development of a parks and recreation system plan for the City of Smyrna
RECREATE Smyrna will give new life and freshness to the City; it will provide residents with opportunities for refreshment and diversion, while also helping to address some of the difficult and complex challenges that the City faces. The ultimate goal of RECREATE Smyrna is to improve the social, environmental, and economic quality of life of existing and future residents.
RECREATE Smyrna accomplishes these objects by achieving the following three goals:
1. Creates a decision making framework that ensures a systematic approach to developing a balance of parks and recreation facilities, amenities, and programs that are responsive to City resident social, economic, and environmental needs and priorities now and into the future.
2. Creates a vision for an integrated public realm - including parks, natural areas, civic spaces, rights of ways, and other linear greenspace corridors - that generate multiple economic, social, and ecological benefits for the City.
3. Establishes a realistic and achievable implementation strategy that allocates and leverages resources to improve, manage, and operate Smyrna's parks and recreation system.
