Activities and Events for Teens

Crafts for a Cause

The most relaxing and rewarding hour of the month: Crafts for a Cause! On the second Tuesday of every month, local teens (aged 13-18) meet at 6:00PM to make a new craft that benefits the community. Teens have created everything from snowman sock stuffies for hospitalized kids, to beautiful wreaths for nursing home residents, and much more. Each participating teen will receive volunteer service time for each monthly program attended (plus unlimited warm fuzzies).

100 Books Before Graduation

What is it?

100 Books Before Graduation is a reading initiative for teens to read 100 books before they graduate from high school.

What's in it for me?

• Reading results in higher test scores
• Improves reading achievement (strong vocabulary, greater use of grammatical structures, and improved writing style)

Additionally, reading for pleasure:
• Increases social skills
• Reduces stress
• Helps cure boredom
• Plus, reading prepares you for life after high school while helping you become a more creative, open-minded person.

Who can participate?

Students who are entering 9th grade may begin the program the summer after 8th grade. Those who are already in high school may also participate and challenge themselves to finish 100 books (although in a shorter time).
How do I start?
• Create an account online or download the Beanstack app on your smartphone to get started. Choose the 100 Books Before Graduation Challenge.
• Read books from this list of suggestions or choose your own.
• Log your books in Beanstack.

**Please note: You will receive a monthly email as a friendly reminder to record your books.

What happens when you read 100 books?

Besides being exposed to amazing stories, characters, and authors, and having a sense of accomplishment, all those who complete 100 Books Before Graduation will receive a free book, a coupon for a free Bundlet from Nothing Bundt Cakes, and an Adulting 101 kit.

Is there anything else? Yes!

At the end of every month, there will be a small prize drawing in which we will randomly draw one participant. Participants who have recorded a book during that month will be eligible for a prize drawing which will include gift cards, books, novelty toys, and more.
Participants can only complete the program one time. Each book logged must be unique. You may not enter books that you have already read. Only books that you have finished after your registration date can be recorded. Yes, audio books and graphic novels count!
