Keep Smyrna Beautiful Announces Community Gardening Plots available for reservation (while supplies last)
If have no room for a food garden at your home, join the new Smyrna Community Garden movement and get busy!
The Community Garden, located at the new North Cooper Lake Park (4201 N. Cooper lake Road, Smyrna Ga 30082) is fenced with an 8-foot chain-link fence that was paid for with a $10,000 grant to Keep Smyrna Beautiful from United Parcel Service of America, Inc. (UPS).
With the help of IBM volunteers, raised beds are constructed from 2” x10” cedar lumber. A steering committee of volunteers who signed up at the public meeting in March met weekly to discuss rules, fees, and soil as well as amenities for the garden and how to find funding. Smyrna resident and landscape architect Sean Murphy, who designed the new community garden in Suwannee, has donated design services, renderings and technical advice. Fees have been set at $40 to $195 per year based on plot size. Strict organic gardening is not required, but an area will be reserved for those who are interested.
If you would like volunteer or to sign up for a plot, please call 770-431-2863 or email email@example.com. Access the policies and lease agreement document in Document Central.
The Smyrna Communtiy Garden will be starting with 59 plots of four different sizes:
5'x6' small - fee is $40
5'x8' medium - fee is $50
5'x12' large - fee is $75
10'x13 jumbo - fee is $195
Funds from leasing Phase I will go to building Phase II, with a total of 98 plots to complete the Garden.
