For Fire Protection and Life Safety Systems: Each contractor is responsible for inspections on his/her permit, which will be unique from the Building Permit. Yours will begin with FIRE. Please have this number available when discussing your project.
A plan review fee will be assessed when intake is completed for a project. This initial plan review fee must be paid before the project is routed to a plan reviewer’s queue.

Fire Alarm/Sprinkler Submittals
- Up to 5 sprinklers or Up to 5 SLC or NAC appliances – Limited Work Permit
- 6-20 sprinklers– Permit application and Plans
- More than 20 sprinklers– full submittal with application, plans, and hydraulic calculations

Sec. 50-35. - Amendments to the fire prevention code.
(g) The fire prevention code is amended by adding the following:
- All nonresidential occupancies served by an internal automatic fire detection or suppression system shall have an approved lock box system.
- The lock box shall be installed according to the Bureau of Fire Prevention specifications.
- Lock boxes can be ordered electronically but must be keyed to the Fire Department standard.
International Fire Code (2018 ed.) 506 - Key Boxes.
506.2 Key box maintenance. The operator of the building shall immediately notify the fire code official and provide the new key where a lock is changed or rekeyed. The key to such lock shall be secured in the key box.
Staff will no longer accept hard copies of system testing documentation. All documentation must be uploaded into The Compliance Engine’s online system at https://www.thecomplianceengine.com/.
As of July 1, 2023, the Bureau of Fire Prevention have now added the option for expedited inspections. Expedited inspections such as same-day inspections, same-day reinspections, or after hour/non-workday inspections must be requested by 3 pm the day of the request. All fees must be paid prior to the expedited plan review or inspection.
- Expedited plan review (for a 3-5 business day review time): $1,000 per review
- Expedited inspection: $500 per inspection
