S.T.E.P.
The Selective Traffic Enforcement Program, the Traffic Unit, is supervised by a Lieutenant and a Sergeant. The unit is comprised of Crash Investigators and Motorcycle Officers. This unit’s responsibilities include investigating traffic complaint areas, extended traffic direction detail, police escorts, investigating all fatal traffic crashes, enforcement of traffic laws in those areas which analysis indicates an elevated amount of crashes, disregarding traffic laws, special details, and investigation of crashes involving Department vehicles. The Traffic Unit also addresses traffic concerns reported by the community. Each member is provided extensive training in accident investigation and Traffic Reconstruction. Other than crash investigation and traffic enforcement, these officers are also responsible for:
• Investigating Hit and Run crashes
• Traffic School Program for motorists sentenced from the court to attend
• Conducting Drug and Alcohol Awareness Programs to local schools
• Child Seat Education Program

The Canine Unit is supervised by the Special Operations Lieutenant and Sergeant. The Canine Unit provides a specialized field response to incidents where the deployment of a highly trained police dog and handler is required. This unit supports both the Criminal Investigation and Uniform Divisions.
The objectives of the Canine Unit are to provide support in all aspects of criminal investigation, criminal apprehension, and the collection of evidence and contraband (bombs, narcotics, guns, etc.), searches for lost, demented, or injured children and adults, and any other duty in which the application of police canines deters criminal activity or supports the welfare of the community.
The Canine Unit also coordinates community and public relations activities in community schools and other venues.
DUI Taskforce
The DUI Task force is responsible for DUI enforcement throughout the city to ensure safe transit for our community. They enforce all traffic laws but are focused on the apprehension of impaired drivers.
Honor Guard
The Honor Guard represents the Department at official functions or when a ceremonial display of colors or respect is required as directed by the Chief of Police.
