The Community Relations is responsible for coordinating and scheduling Smyrna Police Department’s outreach programs. The Smyrna Police Department holds a wide variety of programs that citizens can get involved in. These programs include Citizens Police Academy, Women’s Self Defense, RAD Kids, Neighborhood Watch, and many more. If you would like to get involved, please contact the Smyrna Police Department’s Community Relations Officer.

Internship Program

Police internships provide students with a unique opportunity to work alongside law enforcement professionals and gain firsthand experience in various aspects of police work. Interns will support and observe officers in roles such as data entry, traffic control, and criminal investigations. This internship will primarily focus on the duties and responsibilities of patrol officers, while also offering supplemental exposure to areas such as criminal investigations and community relations. Interns will have the opportunity to directly observe key aspects of patrol operations, including incident response, preliminary investigations, officer training, warrant service, arrests, and courtroom testimony. This hands-on experience is designed to give interns a well-rounded understanding of modern policing and the vital role officers play in serving and protecting the community.
