2019 Smyrna Citizens Academy
Ever wondered how the City of Smyrna operates across all departments? Apply today to be a part of the second Smyrna Citizens Academy cohort!
The Smyrna Citizens Academy gives residents an opportunity to become civically engaged by building positive relationships with city government officials while furthering their education on the city’s daily processes. Through the academy, citizens will get a behind-the-scenes look at city operations, have a chance to give feedback that may help the city improve its commitment to the citizens, and become ambassadors for the city in which they live, work, and play.
Learn from city staff during interactive sessions about:
- City Council and Administration
- Finance and Human Resources
- Public Works and City Engineering
- Community Development and IT
- Parks & Recreation
- Keep Smyrna Beautiful and Community Relations
- Smyrna Public Library and Smyrna History Museum
- Public Safety
The City of Smyrna Citizens Academy will take place over a 9-week period consisting of eight learning sessions followed by a graduation ceremony.
Sessions will be held on Tuesdays from 6:00 PM until 8:30 PM beginning on March 12, 2019 and concluding on May 7, 2019. The graduation ceremony will be held on Monday, May 20, 2019.
There is currently a waitlist for 2019. You may still apply in the event that someone else can no longer attend.
To be considered for participation in the Smyrna Citizens Academy, an applicant must be over the age of 18. The deadline for application submission is February 26, 2019 at 5:00 pm EST.
The application is open to the public but priority is given to those who live or work within the city limits of Smyrna and to those who are available for all sessions. The Smyrna Citizens Academy is limited to 25 participants.
