Division Chief, Training Division

Under the general direction of the Deputy Fire Chief, the Training Division Chief is responsible for planning, scheduling, supervising, and administering a comprehensive fire training program and coordinating the in-service training and safety programs for the Smyrna Fire Department.  In addition, the Training Division Chief functions as the departmental Public Information Officer.

The Smyrna Fire Department Training Division's primary mission is to ensure that emergency service professionals are trained to effectively serve the City of Smyrna. The Training Division accomplishes its mission by preparing probationary fire candidates for state fire certification and assignment to the response division; providing realistic training opportunities to all SFD personnel; and providing professional growth and employee development opportunities to the members of SFD.

 Dustin Davey began his career with the Smyrna Fire Department in 2003.  Dustin was promoted to Engineer in 2007 and appointed as the Assistant Training Officer in July of 2009. In 2012, he was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned as the Fire Training Officer.  In 2016, Dustin was appointed Training Chief.  In his current role, his additional duties include serving as the Departmental Safety Officer and Fire Department Public Information Officer.

He is a Nationally Certified Fire Officer IV and has earned college degrees in Fire Science and Public Safety Leadership. Chief Davey is a Command College graduate and holds a Master of Public Safety Administration degree from Columbus State University.  Dustin is a Certified Emergency Manager through the Georgia Emergency Management Agency/Department of Homeland Security and a Georgia Certified Paramedic.  In 2016, Chief Davey received his Blue Card Incident Command Instructor Certification and led the charge to develop a Command Training Center for the Smyrna Fire Department.  He is a Nationally Certified Fire Instructor II and recognized as an adjunct instructor with the Georgia Fire Academy. 

Chief Davey received his Chief Training Officer (CTO) designation from the Commission on Professional Credentialing in 2015 and the Georgia Chief Fire Officer designation from the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs in 2016.   

Chief Davey is the recipient of the 2007 City of Smyrna Public Service Award and was named Firefighter of the Year in 2009.
